Plymouth voters considered several budget articles at Town Meeting last night and the nays won. The town budget was voted down on a 27-28 hand count. The main issue was the annual cost of insurance on the five town employees, listed at $125,000.
A second budget article requesting an additional $62,608 to extend the contract with the Windsor County Sheriff for four additional hours a day of police coverage was also defeated by town voters.
Another meeting will now need to be arranged to reconsider the budget for the town. Voting by Australian ballot will take place today from 10am-7pm at the Plymouth Municipal Building to elect Town Officers.
The Plymouth Town School District Annual Meeting was held following the close of Town Meeting. A budget of $783,149 was approved by voters. This is anticipated to cover the tuition for the estimated 47 Plymouth students, pre-kindergarden through high school, enrolled in area schools.
