History Alive for Kids

submitted by Diane Kemble, Education Director,  Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation

Do you like to draw, explore, and have fun making up plays? Come spend a beautiful fall day or two at Plymouth!   The programs are geared to kids ages 8 to 12.

Sept. 24, 2011 Drawing History Day
9:00am to 1:00pm
Imagine going back in time as you explore this village where a little boy grew up to be President. Draw what you discover: a stagecoach, tiny spoons, fishing boots, a bearskin rug and other long-ago things. Investigate details and ask questions like a detective. Explore and draw the outdoors. Go home with a portfolio of your drawings and ideas!

Led by artist, teacher, and muralist Terry Sylvester. www.sylvesterstudios.com.

Oct. 8, 2011 Moving and Grooving with the Past
9:00am to 1:00pm
Bring the stories of Calvin Coolidge’s Plymouth Notch to life through movement, improvisation, and play. Let’s create original works of art while exploring history using our bodies.

Led by Ashley Hensel-Browning who is a dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist who enjoys dancing in schools, studios, theaters, and the great outdoors throughout New England.

Sign up at 802-672-3389 or education@calvin-coolidge.org  $15 each session or $25 for both. (Bring a picnic lunch.) Meet in the downstairs classroom in the new Coolidge Museum and Education Center.
